About The Institute
The Islamic Learning Institute, formed in 1978 by Imam Qasim Ahmed, (RA رحمه الله عليه (rahim Allaha alayhi-May Allah have mercy on him)), is committed to the development of Islamic scholarship in Al-Qur’an and the Sunnah (traditions) of Muhammad the Prophet, (SAWS صلى الله عليه وسلّم (salAllahu alayhi was sallam-peace and blessings of Allah upon him)). It is dedicated to the revival of Islamic thought in the 21st century for the social, cultural, educational and spiritual development of humanity. Its methodology for the revival of Islamic thought is through intellectual training in the Qur’an in its original language, seerah (life of Muhammad the Prophet (SAWS)), fiqh (law), and the study of the tafsir of the teachings of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed (RA).
Our Goal
Our goal is to encourage millions of people to read the Qu’ran. We provide a unique method of reading the Qur’an in the original Arabic language.
Our Vision
Our vision is to work with all right-minded people regardless of their religious, political, social or educational affiliations. We believe every human being is created with an upright nature. When that nature is educated and cultivated properly, they can live in harmony and peace, and work for the good of all mankind. The Institute studies various schools of thinking in order to extract principles and insights that can be applied to daily practical living and are in harmony with Allah's (G-d’s*) (الله سبحانه وتعالى SWT (subhaanahu wa ta 'aala-May He be praised and exalted)) universal creation that operates as a comprehensive complete harmonious whole.
Our Inspiration
Imam Warithuddin Mohammed (RA) stated that, “As Muslims in America, we should learn how to read the Qur’an in Arabic, because it would help us to better learn and understand the religion of Al-Islam from its original source.” This statement inspired and motivated Imam Qasim Ahmed’s interest to assiduously study the Qur’anic Arabic language. In the late 70’s, he began teaching Arabic classes. He began to develop unique methods for learning the Qur'anic Arabic to ease the fears and build confidence in participants around the country. Today, his name is synonymous with: “You too can learn Qur’anic Arabic.”
The Future of ILI
Since the passing of Imam Qasim Ahmed (Allah's mercy upon him and grant him Paradise), the institute lives on to continue its goal. Imam Qasim's widow, Sister Nadiyah Ahmad, a professional administrator and teacher of Islamic and academic studies, and published author, along with other protégés and colleagues of Imam Qasim and Sister Nadiyah have taken up the charge to deliver Islamic education using proven techniques while continuing to create effective, dynamic education models and products to serve the needs of the community.
